Concert Review - Christian Music

I was able to catch a Good Friday performance while they were in San Diego @ The Rock Church.  It was a night of definite praise and worship.  The Katinas showed their veteran status that night by performing as a worship band, not a mainstream Christian band.  I don't think they even played one of their album songs.  It was all about worship that night.  They were purely focused on praising Jesus and it showed.  I don't know if the almost packed out crowd in the Open Air Theatre at San Diego State University even noticed, but I did.  The Katinas were there for one reason...To glorify Jesus Christ and what He did for all of us on the cross.  Have you seen that bumper sticker "Real Men Love Jesus".  Well, they exemplified that on Good Friday.

Immediately, the Katinas connected with the crowd as the audience began clapping their hands to "Lord, I lift your name on high".  Then, they mixed it up with a praise medley that merged different genre styles into one awesome worship song.  It went from contemporary praise, to island praise, to 70's disco praise and so on... They even showed their "with it" dance moves by doing the infamous "Cabbage Patch" on stage. Ha! Ha! All the while, their index finger was pointed to the sky in order to make sure that everybody knew who they were performing for.  They made it fun, entertaining and a praise filled experience.

The weatherman said it was supposed to rain that night.  Obviously, he must have forgotten that God controls the weather.  Especially when there are a few thousand people counting on Him to hold back the rain for a Good Friday service that included the Katinas.

This wasn't the first time I've seen the Katinas, and I'm sure it isn't the last.  Each time, God uses them to bless me.  That's the reason we keep crossing paths.  Let's just say that their song "You Are God" was a blessing that Jesus used to comfort me in a time of trial.

To the Katinas, I say "Keep up the God work".  What you do for Jesus, He takes and does ten fold for others.  May God abundantly bless you, your families and your ministry.
